I like animation in general, so I was happy to create a stop motion animation for this unit. I also enjoyed the whole process of taking photographs and editing the animation.
If I was going to do this animation again, then I think I would add more effects to it. I also think that I would improve the beginning and ending in this animation by playing with the volume of my music and better fading in/out effects.
Overall, I am still happy with the result as I chose a very difficult thing to animate- RAIN. It is just like I described my music- chaotic, unpredictable and irregular.
In addition, It was rain that chose when I needed to animate it, not me, which means that I needed to be prepared to take shots when it ‘decided’ to rain…
EXPORTING THE ANIMATION
iMovie- Share- Export to Quick Time was an option that I used to export my animation. I have done it twice, to make sure that I will have a back up of my animation if anything happens to it.
I also exported it to Mpeg4 format.
EFFECTS
I added a ‘bleach effect’ to my photos, because it made the raindrops stand out more and it made all of my photos looking similar by the colour.
Before adding this effect, the colours of my photos varied due to different shots so I think that it was a good decision.
I also added a ‘fade in/out’ effect at the beginning and end of my animation. It also created a good focus and opening/ending of my animation.
iMOVIE
I went to a drop in session on Tuesday, to be able to use imovie and finish my animation.
I was uploading the photos into this software in sections because of the extreme amount of photos that I have taken. I wanted to make sure that I viewed all of them and I picked the best ones.
When I was sure of the photos that I want to leave, I deleted all of the unneeded ones.
MUSIC
I decided to create my animation to the first 31 seconds of my music, so I cut the rest of the song in Garage Band.
MATCHING THE SHOTS TO MUSIC SOUNDS
When I added the music I was able to either delete some photos or to move my shots around so they go well with the music. My shots change to high sound effects in the music.
ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS, IMOVIE
I had it sessions with software called Adobe After Effects, but I don’t think that I need to use this programme for my animation. I had previously used iMovie and I feel confident using it . Therefore, this will be the software that I will finish my animation in.
These photos show my garden where I took all of my shots and an SLR camera on a tripod that I took my photographs with.
I took all of the photos during the 23rd April and 29th April , so so much earlier than I was actually supposed to.
The reason for doing that was that this week had a perfect weather for my animation. It was raining almost every day giving me the opportunity to experiment with the light/settings/shot angles etc. and I didn’t want to leave it and risk the weather for scheduled production weeks.
I am very happy for this decision as in the past two weeks it wasn’t really raining. I would have been in a very hard position with my animation, so it is good that I didn’t experience this problem.
In summary, I took about 2000 photos !!!!! That means that I have plenty of shots and photos to work with.
Before I shot the final animation I needed to test if my idea is actually working.
In order to create this animation I used Adobe Photoshop. I imported the photos and then exported this animation in Mpeg4 format. ~Unfortunately the animation lost its quality, but at least I can see that the window shot is working, so I think, will the other ones.
These are the photos of the locations that I will take photographs of. They can be seen in my storyboard.
TRIAL ANIMATIONS——> PROBLEM !!!
I will upload 3 animations that I have done with my Iphone by using a software called ‘I can animate’.
I wanted to export those animations to my ‘Camera Roll’ so I could then import them to my laptop by using ‘iTunes’. Unfortunately, ‘I can animate’ didn’t let me exporting my trial animations so I needed to think of ANOTHER WAY TO SHOW THEM ON MY BLOG.
I used my camera to video the animations on my iphone, but the quality is very bad and you can hardly see anything.
I will upload them anyway, just to evidence that I have done the trials.
CONCLUSION OF THESE 3 TRIALS
I created these animations straight away when I got the idea. They made me think that I am able to create my final one based on raindrops, because the photos showed the movement.
Unfortunately you cannot see the results very well, but despite this fact, they were very useful.
This is a short animation focusing on the passenger’s window. I thought that it will be interesting, because the mirror reflects the view increasing its depth.
